Here is my notes. I am into paperless system right now. So I am trying to clean my study room gradually :-)
Active Directory - is a directories that collects information about object that are related to one another. This directory is mostly integrated with windows infrastructure.
- Physical components of AD - (1) sites (2) Domain Controllers.
- AD components used to represent an organization's logical structure are - (1) domains (2) organizational units (OUs) (3) trees (4) forests.
Features are:
1. Centralized data store - resides in a single distributed data repository allowing users to access data information from any location.
2. Scalability - enables you to scale the directory to meet business and network requirements and network through the configuration of domains, trees and the placement of domain controllers.
3. Extensibility - structure of active directory data base(schema) can be expanded to allow customized type of information.
4. Manageability - A.D. based on hierarchical organization structures which makes it easy for you to control administrative privileges and other security settings.
5. Integration with Domain Name System (DNS) - AD uses DNS ( an internet service that translate readable host names to numeric Internet Protocol address) to locate domain controllers.
Most notes are in my journal.
